Espresso Stories
The micro-story is a common author’s challenge: write a complete story with begining, middle, and end in 25 words or less. Espresso Stories was an early web app that let authors do it, complete with assigned genres and mediation. Inspired by Honduran-Guatemalan writer Augusto Monteroso, famous for his nine-word short “The Dinosaur”, I created the site and managed it for a decade.
In its ten-year lifespan the site gained 2,500 authors, publishing over 10,000 little stories, funded by Google Ads on the right. It was also used in several North American schools to teach writing skills! Here’s what it looked like.
